San José, Costa Rica, July 12, 2021
July 10, 2021, saw the launch of the Semillero Latinoamericano: Acercando a las y los jóvenes a la Corte Interamericana de Derechos Humanos” (Latin American Seedbed: Bringing youth people to the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, or Semillero LATAM), a program organized by the Human Rights Center at the School of Law, of the University of Buenos Aires, Konrad Adenauer Rule of Law Program in Latin America, and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.
The objective of Semillero LATAM is to provide spaces for interaction and work, in order to develop a collaboration network among young university students, which will enable them to move forward in defending human rights in the region, through the acquisition of knowledge of how the Inter-American Court functions, and through the promotion of the standards developed by the Court. This network will also enable students from different parts of the region to stay in contact, once the professional work related to the promotion and defense of human rights begins.
To participate in this program, more than 400 applications were received, from students with a calling to immerse themselves into the Inter-American Human Rights System. After a competitive selection process, 54 students, from different Latin American universities, were selected. The process was intended to be inclusive of universities from all over the region and to take into consideration criteria like nationality, gender, thematic interests, etc.
A variety of meetings and training workshops will be held throughout the course. Students will also be accompanied by tutors, who will organize different activities and provide support for the preparation of a final project.
