Why is the Advisory function of the Court important?
It is a very important task for the Inter-American Court. Just as when you go to a specialist for a specific consultation, by this means the Inter-American Court responds to inquiries made by the OAS member States or its organs regarding: a) the compatibility of internal norms with the Convention; and b) the interpretation of the Convention or of other treaties concerning the protection of human rights in the American States.
Through the Advisory Opinions, the Inter-American Court has ensured the protection of very important human rights for our democracies.
