The Inter-American Court starts the Fourth Edition of its Case Law Refresher Course in Guatemala

Guatemala City, Guatemala, May 26, 2022. Today, the President of the Inter-American Court, Judge Ricardo C. Pérez Manrique, and the President of the Constitutional Court and General Director of the Institute of Constitutional Justice, Judge Dina Josefina Ochoa Escribá, closed the first module of the Fourth Edition of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights’ Case Law Refresher Course that will take place in Guatemala from May 25 to July 7, 2022.

This Diploma course is part of the project Strengthening the Protection of Human Rights and the Rule of Law through jurisprudential dialogue, optimization of institutional capacities and compliance with the Judgments of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights in El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, signed with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), through which it seeks to optimize the capacities of judicial administration officers for the application of International Human Rights Law and the Case Law of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.

The Inter-American Court’s Case Law refresher course hosted over 120 participants, including judges from the Judiciary, prosecutors from the Public Prosecution Service and officials from the Victim’s Institute and the Attorney General's Office, along with other key officials for the protection of human rights in the country. It allowed them to deepen their knowledge about the Inter-American Human Rights System and the main Case Law standards of the Inter-American Court.

The Course’s introductory module was held in-person at the courtroom of the Constitutional Court of Guatemala and was led by professors Alexandra Sandoval Mantilla, Vice President of the Special Jurisdiction for Peace of the Republic of Colombia, and Patricia Tarre Moser, Former Lawyer of the Inter-American Court.
