Inter-American Court inaugurated its Course on "The right to protest, public order and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights", in Ecuador

 

San José, Costa Rica, November 9, 2021.- TOn November 8, the Judge of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, Humberto Antonio Sierra Porto, and the Attorney General of the State of Ecuador, Íñigo Salvador Crespo, inaugurated the Course "The right to social protest, public order and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights”, in Ecuador.

This Course, aimed at personnel of the State Attorney General's Office and relevant officials of the Ecuadorian State, is a part of a project between the Inter-American Court of Human Rights and the Ecuadorian State Attorney General's Office. This training activity will take place between November 8 and 23, 2021, and consists of a public forum, a start-up module held through live videoconferences, a self-training module of asynchronous transmissions and two case analysis workshops. The course will see the participation of 100 officials from the State Attorney General's Office, National Police, Armed Forces, Public Defender's Office, National Assembly, Judicial Council, National Ministry of Defense and State Prosecutor's Office.

As the project’s opening event, the forum "The right to social protest and human rights" was held on November 8 for 300 attendees, mainly civil servants and public sector officials of the State of Ecuador belonging to institutions such as the State Attorney General's Office, National Assembly, Constitutional Court, State Attorney General's Office, Ministry of National Defense, Armed Forces, Army, National Police, Ministry of Government, Public Defender's Office and Council of the Judiciary. It featured keynote speeches and remarks from professors Roberto Gargarella, Claudio Nash Rojas, Magdalena Cervantes Alcayde, Claudia Martin and Michael Hamilton.
