The Inter-American Court closed, in Guatemala, the second Course on its Case Law concerning indigenous peoples, environmental rights and human rights defenders

 

On March 5, the Inter-American Court closed, in Guatemala, the second version of the special training Course on “Indigenous peoples, environmental rights, and human rights defenders in the Case Law of the Inter-American Court.” The course was held from March 1 to 5, 2021, using the virtual platform of the Institute of Constitutional Justice (IJC), with the participation of more than 180 officials from the Judiciary, the Constitutional court, the Public Prosecution Service, the Public Criminal Defense Service, and the Ombudsman’s Office, among other key institutions for the protection of human rights in that country.

The training program forms part of the activities of the project: “Strengthening the protection of human rights and the rule of law through jurisprudential dialogue, optimization of capacities, and compliance with the judgments of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights in El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras,” executed by the Inter-American Court with the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (COSUDE) and the Guatemalan Constitutional Court.

During the closure of the event, the Judge of the Inter-American Court, Ricardo Pérez Manrique, sent a virtual message, while the Institute of Constitutional Justice was represented by Silvia Guadalupe Dubón Espinoza, and the Inter-American Court by the lawyer, Javier Mariezcurrena.
