Publication of the book Successes and Challenges in Regional Human Rights Systems. 40th anniversary of the entry into force of the American Convention on Human Rights and the creation of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. International Seminar

San José, Costa Rica, November 23, 2022. To commemorate the 53rd anniversary of the adoption of the American Convention on Human Rights, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (I/A Court H.R.) is pleased to announce the publication of the book Successes and Challenges in Regional Human Rights Systems. 40th anniversary of the entry into force of the American Convention on Human Rights and the creation of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. International Seminar. The book, published jointly with the Institute of Constitutional Studies of the State of Querétaro (IECEQ), includes the presentations made at the international seminar held from July 16 to 19, 2018, in San José, Costa Rica, as part of the activities commemorating the 40th anniversary of the entry into force of the American Convention on Human Rights and the creation of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.

The international seminar Successes and challenges in the regional human rights systems was held on July 18 and 19, 2018, and attended by Judges from the three regional human rights courts from across the world, former judges of the Inter-American Court, international and national experts, national high court authorities, victims of human rights violations, state officials, and representatives from academia and civil society. This publication allows interested persons to access the event’s presentations, which contain profound reflections on the 40 years of validity of the Pact of San José, on the work carried out by the Inter-American Court in that period, and on the challenges that face regional and universal human rights systems. Also included is the Declaration of San José, Costa Rica, signed by the presidents of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, the African Court of Human and Peoples' Rights, and the European Court of Human Rights with the aim of strengthening the work between the world’s three regional courts.

Both the Inter-American Court and the IECEQ hope that this publication serves, not only as a historical memory of this space for reflection and joint production of knowledge, but also contributes to improving the protection of human rights in our region and the world.
