San José, Costa Rica, August 18, 2023.- The Inter-American Court will hold its 160th Regular Session from August 21 to September 6, 2023. It will include both virtual and in-person activities.

  • Corte IDH archivó el Caso Ximenes Lopes Vs. Brasil

    San José, Costa Rica, 28 de octubre de 2023.- De conformidad con lo señalado en la Resolución de Supervisión de Cumplimiento de Sentencia emitida el 25 de septiembre de 2023, la Corte dio por concluido el Caso Ximenes Lopes, en razón de que Brasil cumplió con cuatro medidas de reparación ordenadas en la Sentencia del 4 de julio de 2006 y debido a que el Tribunal declaró concluida la supervisión de cumplimiento de la obligación de investigar, juzgar y, en su caso, sancionar a los responsables de los hechos de este caso.   • Ecuador cumplió con la Sentencia del Caso Cortez Espinoza

    San José, Costa Rica, 26 de septiembre de 2023.- De conformidad con lo señalado en la Resolución de Supervisión de Cumplimiento de Sentencia emitida por la Corte el 30 de agosto de 2023, Ecuador cumplió con ejecutar todas las reparaciones ordenadas en la Sentencia del 18 de octubre de 2022. Por lo tanto, la Corte Interamericana decidió dar por concluido el caso y archivarlo.   • Delegación de la Corte IDH realiza diligencia judicial in situ en la ciudad de Tela

    San José, Costa Rica, 25 de septiembre de 2023. Del 29 al 31 de mayo de 2023 una delegación de la Corte Interamericana de Derechos Humanos llevó a cabo una diligencia judicial in situ en la ciudad de Tela y sus alrededores y mantuvo una reunión de trabajo en la cual se escuchó al Estado de Honduras y a la Comisión Interamericana, así como a terceras personas e instituciones con un interés directo en el Caso Comunidad Garífuna de San Juan y sus miembros Vs. Honduras. En esa oportunidad la delegación de la Corte Interamericana estuvo compuesta por las Juezas Nancy Hernández López y Patricia Pérez Goldberg, el Juez Humberto Antonio Sierra Ponto, la Secretaria Adjunta, Romina I. Sijniensky y personal de la Secretaría del Tribunal.

  • Guatemala is not responsible for not authorizing an american citizen to act as notary public

    San José, Costa Rica, September 4, 2023. In the Judgment notified today in the Case of Hendrix v. Guatemala, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights declared that the State is not internationally responsible for the violation of the rights to equal protection and to judicial protection contained in Articles 24 and 25.1 of the American Convention on Human Rights, in relation to Articles 1.1 and 2 thereof, to the detriment of Steven Edward Hendrix.

On January 20th, 2023, the Argentine Republic submitted to the Secretariat of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights a request for an advisory opinion regarding “The content and scope of care as a human right, and its interrelationship with other rights” under Article 64(1) of the American Convention on Human Rights.

  • The Inter-American Court concluded in El Salvador the second edition of the Course on Women’s Rights in the Jurisprudence of the Inter-American Court

    San Salvador, El Salvador, August 21, 2023.- On August 18, the Inter-American Court concluded in San Salvador the second edition of the Course on Women’s Rights in the Jurisprudence of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. It was held at the “Dr. Arturo Zeledón Castrillo” Judicial Training School of the National Council of the Judiciary (CNJ) and was inaugurated by Licda. Bessy Aguirre de Flores, Director of that school. There were over 40 participants from the justice administration, including individuals from the Judicial Branch, the Attorney General’s Office and the Public Prosecutor’s Office, among other institutions key to the protection of the rights of women, children and adolescents in El Salvador.

  • The Inter-American Court of Human Rights concluded the fifth edition of the Refresher Diploma Course on its Jurisprudence in El Salvador

    San Salvador, El Salvador, August 17, 2023. The Inter-American Court concluded yesterday the fifth edition of its Refresher Diploma Course on the Jurisprudence of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights in the city of San Salvador. The closing ceremony was led by Licda. Bessy Aguirre de Flores, Director of the Judicial Training School of the National Council of the Judiciary (CNJ)  “Dr. Arturo Zeledón Castrillo.” Participants in the diploma course included officers of the justice administration from the Judicial Branch, the Attorney General’s Office, the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Human Rights Ombudsman’s Office, among other key institutions for the protection of human rights in El Salvador. Participants obtained a more in-depth knowledge of substantive aspects of the administration of justice and human rights, mainly those related to Articles 8 and 25 of the American Convention on Human Rights.

It was held in the Judicial School of Honduras “Francisco Salomón Jiménez Castro,” and had more than 30 participants, including officers of the justice administration belonging to the Judicial Branch, the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Public Defender’s Office, and the Attorney General’s Office, among other key institutions for the protection of the human rights of women in the country.

  • Argentina is found responsible for a delay in processing an appeal for legal protection regarding a judge’s compensation

    San José, Costa Rica, August 11, 2023. – In the judgment in the Case of Boleso v. Argentina notified today, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights declared that Argentina is responsible for the violation of the right to judicial guarantees and the right to legal protection, in relation to Article 1.1 of the American Convention on Human Rights, to the detriment of Héctor Hugo Boleso.

    Tegucigalpa, Honduras, August 10, 2023.- The Inter-American Court concluded yesterday the fifth edition of its Refresher Diploma Course on the Jurisprudence of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. More than 55 individuals participated through online and in-person options, including Judges from appeals chambers, prosecutors and officers of the Attorney General’s Office, among other key officers for the protection of human rights in Honduras. Participants obtained a more in-depth knowledge of substantive aspects of the administration of justice and human rights, mainly those related to Articles 8 and 25 of the American Convention on Human Rights.

  • Colombia is responsible for the forced disappearance of soldier Óscar Iván Tabares Toro

    San José, Costa Rica, August 8, 2023.- In the Judgment notified today in the Case of Tabares Toro et al. v. Colombia, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights declared the international responsibility of the State of Colombia for the violation of the rights to juridical personality, to life, to humane treatment, to personal liberty, to a fair trial, to judicial protection, to privacy, of the family, and of the child, to the detriment of Óscar Iván Tabares Toro and his next of kin, as a result of the forced disappearance of Mr. Tabares Toro on December 28, 1997, and the subsequent lack of investigation and clarification of the circumstances of his disappearance, as well as the impact of those facts on his next of kin. In the instant case the State acknowledged its international responsibility.

  • Costa Rica has complied with the Judgment in the Case of Moya Chacón et al.

    San José, Costa Rica, August 4, 2023.- In conformity with that set forth in the Resolution of Monitoring Compliance with Judgment issued by the Court on June 26, 2023, Costa Rica has complied with the execution of all reparation measures ordered in the Judgment of May 23, 2022. Consequently, the Inter-American Court has decided to close and archive the case.
