Inter-American Court inaugurated its third edition of the Course on the Rights of Indigenous and Tribal Peoples, Environmental Rights and Human Rights Defenders, in Honduras

 

San José, Costa Rica, October 19, 2021.- On October 18, the Inter-American Court inaugurated its third edition of the dedicated training course on Rights of Indigenous and Tribal Peoples, Rights to the Environment and Human Rights Defenders, in Honduras. The event was attended by the President of the Court, Judge Elizabeth Odio Benito, who through virtual means emphasized the importance of the processes of dialogue and training in indigenous and tribal peoples’ human rights for Justice administration officers.

The Course will take place from October 18 to 22 through the videoconferencing platform of the "Francisco Salomón Jiménez Castro" Judicial Training Academy of Honduras, with over 50 participants in the field of justice administration, including judges, prosecutors, officers of the Attorney General's Office and the National Human Rights Commission, as well as other key institutions for the protection of human rights in the country.

This training program is part of the activities of the “Strengthening the protection of human rights and the rule of law through jurisprudential dialogue, optimization of capacities and compliance with the Judgments of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights in El Salvador , Guatemala and Honduras ” project, implemented by the Inter-American Court with the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (COSUDE), the “Francisco Salomón Jiménez Castro” Judicial Training Academy, the Attorney General's Office and the Training Academy of the Public Prosecution Service of Honduras. The course is led by Dr. Juana María Ibáñez Rivas and Dr. Raquel Yrigoyen Fajardo.
