Inter-American Court closes Refresher Program on Case Law of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights in El Salvador

 

San José, Costa Rica, October 15, 2020.-Today the Vice-president of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, Judge Patricio Pazmiño Freire, and the Director of the “Dr. Arturo Zeledón Castrillo” Judicial Training Academy of El Salvador, Professor Dania Elena Tolentino Membreño, formally closed the Refresher Program on Recent Case Law of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.

This training opportunity was attended by justice branch personnel, including judges, prosecutors from the Office of the Prosecutor General, and officers from the Office of the State’s Attorney of the Republic of El Salvador, who furthered their understanding of standards for the administration of justice based on case law of the Inter-American Court.

The final course module was a videoconference taught by Dr. Claudia Martin, Co-director of the Academy for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law and resident professor at American University Washington College of Law; Dr. Silvia Edith Martinez, Inter-American Public Defender before the Inter-American Court of Human Rights and the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, and Dr. Julieta Di Corleto, assistant official public defender with the National Public Defender's Office, responsible for the General Secretariat of Training and Jurisprudence of the Office of the Public Defense.

The Diploma course was held as part of the project “Strengthening Human Rights Protection and the Rule of Law through jurisprudential dialog, institutional capacity building and compliance with the Judgments of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights in El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras,” under agreement with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (COSUDE). It was designed to upgrade the skills of justice officers for applying International Human Rights Law and the case law of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.
