Paraguay complied with the sentence in the Case Nissen Pessolani

 

San José, Costa Rica, December 19, 2024. – In accordance with the compliance monitoring resolution issued by the Court on November 26, 2024, Paraguay has fulfilled all reparations ordered in the judgment of November 21, 2022. Therefore, the Inter-American Court decided to close and archive the case.

  • Corte Interamericana de Derechos Humanos anuncia resultados de Concurso de Fotografía

    San José, Costa Rica, enero 28 de 2024. – El día de ayer, durante la Ceremonia de Inauguración del Año Judicial Interamericano 2025, se realizó el anuncio de las fotografías ganadoras del concurso “Enfocando Derechos: un viaje fotográfico con la Corte IDH”, organizado en el marco del 45.º aniversario del Tribunal. Las personas ganadoras, entre más de 150 postulaciones de toda la región, trataron en sus fotos temas de memoria, migración y desplazamiento.

     San José, Costa Rica, enero 27 de 2024. – El día de hoy, se llevó a cabo la Ceremonia de Inauguración del Año Judicial Interamericano 2025, en la cual asumieron sus cargos los nuevos jueces de la Corte Interamericana de Derechos Humanos para el período 2025-2030: el Juez Alberto Borea Odría y el Juez Diego Moreno Rodríguez.

  • Nicaragua es responsable por violación de los derechos políticos de Fabio Gadea Mantilla, candidato presidencial en las elecciones de noviembre de 2011.

    San José, Costa Rica, enero 23 de 2024. En la sentencia, notificada hoy, en el caso Gadea Mantilla Vs. Nicaragua, la Corte Interamericana de Derechos Humanos declaró la responsabilidad internacional del Estado de Nicaragua por la violación a los derechos políticos, a las garantías judiciales y a la protección judicial del señor Fabio Gadea Mantilla en las elecciones presidenciales de 2011. La Corte concluyó que la falta de integridad del proceso electoral favoreció la reelección del presidente Daniel Ortega. Además, consideró que la Corte Suprema de Justicia y el Consejo Supremo Electoral mostraron parcialidad y no garantizaron un recurso judicial efectivo para revisar las decisiones que cuestionaban irregularidades en el proceso.

  • Ecuador es responsable por violar los derechos a la libertad personal y al debido proceso de tres personas procesadas penalmente.

    San José, Costa Rica, enero 23 de 2024. En la sentencia del caso Reyes Mantilla y otros Vs. Ecuador, notificada hoy, la Corte Interamericana de Derechos Humanos declaró que el Estado del Ecuador es responsable internacionalmente por las detenciones ilegales y arbitrarias de las cuales fueron víctimas Walter Ernesto Reyes Mantilla, Vicente Hipólito Arce Ronquillo y José Frank Serrano Barrera. Asimismo, determinó que las medidas de prisión preventiva que les fueron aplicadas conllevaron una violación a los derechos a la libertad personal, a la presunción de inocencia, y a la igualdad y no discriminación. Además, concluyó que se vulneraron sus derechos a las garantías y protección judiciales en el contexto de los procesos penales adelantados en su contra, y determinó que fueron víctimas de tratos crueles inhumanos y degradantes por los actos de agresiones y amenazas durante el período en que estuvieron privados de la libertad.

  • El Salvador is responsible for obstetric violence and violation of the right to health of a woman with a high-risk pregnancy due to lack of protocols for adequate medical care

    San José, Costa Rica, December 20, 2024. Today, the Inter-American Court of Human
    Rights notified its judgment in Beatriz et al. v. El Salvador. In its decision, the Court
    found the State of El Salvador internationally responsible for failing to comply with its
    obligation of due diligence by guaranteeing the rights of access to effective judicial
    remedies, personal integrity, health and privacy of a woman experiencing a pregnancy
    that involved numerous risks in a situation of obstetric violence resulting from the legal
    uncertainty concerning the legality of the actions of the medical personnel involved in
    her case.

Colombia, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights declared the international responsibility of the State of Colombia for the violation of the rights to recognition of legal personality, life, personal integrity, personal liberty, the defense of human rights, judicial guarantees, judicial protection, and the protection of family and children due to the forced disappearance of Jhon Ricardo Ubaté Monroy and Gloria Mireya Bogotá Barbosa on May 19, 1995. It also held the State accountable for additional violations against their relatives resulting from harassment, threats, and intimidation they suffered while seeking the truth about the events. In this case, the State made a partial acknowledgment of responsibility, and the parties reached a reparations agreement

Colombia, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights declared the international responsibility of the State of Colombia for the violation of the rights to juridical personality, life, personal integrity, personal liberty, to defend human rights, judicial guarantees, judicial protection, rights of the family and rights of the child, due to the forced disappearance Jhon Ricardo Ubaté Monroy and Gloria Mireya Bogotá Barbosa, which took place on May 19, 1995, and the additional violations committed against his next of kin due to the harassment and threats that they were subject to as they sought to uncover the truth of the facts. In the instant case the State made a partial acknowledgment of responsibility, and the parties reached an agreement regarding reparations
